I headed down to the Sydney Opera House on Wednesday to catch My Fair Lady. I thought it was fantastic—the staging was impressive, the performances were spot-on, and the music was just brilliant.I really could’ve done with subtitles. I had a tough time keeping up with what they were on about. But all in all, it was a wonderful show and totally worth it.

I honestly don’t even know what I’ve been doing with myself lately. My eating habits have been completely out of whack. After breakfast, I’m never keen on lunch, but then without fail, I end up starving by around 3 or 4 in the arvo. So I go hunting for a snack, and by the time dinner rolls around, I’m stuffed. I just can’t seem to sort it out.
On top of that, I’m off to Fiji in October and I feel totally underprepared. Should I be reaching out to contacts beforehand? Getting stuck into some research?
I’m struggling to properly focus on work, and taking care of myself has taken a back seat. I’d love to say I’ve been working flat out on my English, but honestly, it feels a bit rich to even say that out loud.

I got the work car sorted yesterday. Like I said, someone had left the cabin light on, which flattened the battery. I took it down to the mechanic, and the guy suggested giving it a thorough once-over just to keep it in good nick. Afterwards, I was just mindlessly scrolling through Google Maps and decided on a whim to drive out to a lookout in the middle of nowhere—I can't even remember the name of it. When I got there, the wind was howling; the car was literally rocking in the car park. I stepped out intending to go for a stroll, but out of nowhere, I got hit with this sudden wave of dread. There was not a soul around—just the endless ocean, some telecom tower, and the roaring gale. In that moment, I felt completely isolated and genuinely terrified by raw nature. After maybe a sixty-second walk, I bolted straight back to the car and headed home, safe and sound.

Tuesday kicked off with our usual catch-up at the Milsons Point office. Beforehand, I was meant to get a pink slip done for the work car, but the battery carked it again and it wouldn’t tick over. I had to ring roadside assistance to give it a jump. To sort it out properly, I took it straight to the local mechanic for a thorough once-over to get to the bottom of it. Blows my mind, but the bloody thing was flat just because someone left the cabin light on. You couldn't make it up!

Sometimes I just feel a bit down. Time just slips away before I even realise it. I feel pretty disappointed with basically everything I've done lately. To be honest, I’ve got this massive to-do list in my head, and top of the list is working on my English. But all I ever manage to do is memorise a few words on an app each day. Other stuff like writing or speaking practice never ends up happening on time. I keep telling myself I need to hit the sack early and get up early, but I always just end up doomscrolling on my phone in bed, wasting two solid hours. Today I sat in front of my Mac trying to get stuck into work, but I kept getting distracted by random, unimportant things. It’s been two years and my English still sucks. Any advice on what I should do?

I’ve just realised that lately, everything’s been pissing me off out of nowhere—I’m just getting angry so easily. On top of that, I can't get anything done at work; I’m just playing games, doomscrolling, and thinking about literally anything except my job. I’ve even lost my temper at an AI agent. I can't stick to my plans, my memory's completely shot, and English words just aren't sticking. I've been really battling to pull myself out of this rut, but I feel like I've failed.

Yesterday I headed out to Cherrybrook Metro station to get some photos of the cherry blossoms, but it clouded over by the time I got there. I ended up just wandering around the area for a bit before heading back into the city.
I had a movie lined up, so after killing some time in Cherrybrook, I caught the train to Town Hall. I still had about two hours to kill before the session started, so I just knocked around town.
The film was Terminator 2: Judgment Day—absolute classic. It was my first time seeing it on the big screen, and I was genuinely surprised by how well-behaved the crowd was. Not a single person on their phone, nobody talking.
Today, I checked out Sydney Contemporary. I only ended up going because I stumbled across a post about it on social media. The exhibition was incredible—it felt like literally everyone there was an artist. I was too shy to actually go up and chat with any of them, though.
After getting back home, I spent the rest of the day playing Resident Evil from broad daylight right through to the evening. Totally lost track of time.

Out of the blue, I’ve recently gotten really into cooking Western food, so I popped down to the supermarket today to grab some ingredients. Honestly, I’m hopeless at spotting things. I did my best to track down everything on the recipe, but I had no luck and just kept walking straight past them. In the end, I gave up and used the app to pinpoint the exact aisles, and the whole grocery run ended up taking me nearly an hour.

The sun was out today, but I had a pretty rough night’s sleep.
Woke up at seven and ended up just lying there until eight.
Honestly couldn’t tell you why I couldn't get my act together—the hour just completely slipped away.
Breakfast was nothing to write home about, the coffee was just average, just a totally run-of-the-mill morning.
Work was pretty chill, too. I knocked out an outline for my new story, prepped a few interview questions, and even found some downtime to read through what I bought yesterday.
Decided to head down to Hoyts for a movie. Saw a newly released crime flick called By Any Means. To be honest, I didn't really get the gist of it, mainly because I struggled to pick up a lot of the dialogue. I always backed my listening skills, but clearly I was kidding myself today, which left me feeling pretty deflated.

I woke up around 7:00 AM today, but ended up lying in bed doomscrolling for over an hour before finally getting up at 8:21. For breakfast, I kept it simple with Greek yoghurt topped with crackers—pretty decent start to the day. Once that was sorted, I brewed myself a long black. Absolute non-negotiable for me; I can't function without coffee.
Realising I’ve been cooped up inside far too much lately, I decided to head out for a walk and get some fresh air.
My first stop was The Galeries to pick up a click-and-collect order for a classic: Lawrence of Arabia. While handing it over, the staff member mentioned how brilliant the film is. I laughed and told her the real clincher was finally scoring a ten-dollar discount on it.
From there, I popped into Kinokuniya upstairs. Out of nowhere, I’ve had this sudden urge to get into cooking—specifically Western food—so I picked up a solid recipe book, along with a comic I’ve been keen on, Batman: White Knight.
While browsing, I also stumbled across the screenplay for The Odyssey. When I took it to the counter, the cashier mentioned she’d caught the film down at Darling Harbour. She said that while it wasn’t quite the ultimate version the director intended, it was still a great watch. I told her I’d already seen it twice, including the 70mm screening over at the Hayden Orpheum.
She knew the cinema straight away. I mentioned I’d also been to the new IMAX at Darling Harbour, which looked incredible, but because the audio mix made half the dialogue impossible to catch, I figured I’d grab the script to finally dissect what everyone was actually saying. She had a laugh and agreed—classic Christopher Nolan territory, where the soundtrack is so blaring you can barely make out a word the characters say.
